Mariah CareyMARIAH CAREY
Singer

Mariah Carey is a big Marilyn Monroe fan and owns Marilyn's famous white baby grand piano. In an episode of MTV's Cribs, Mariah's Manhattan penthouse was featured but Mariah wouldn't show her baby grand because she is "protective" of it. However, in some scenes you can catch a glimpse of the piano behind her. In the same episode of Cribs you can also see "Diamonds Are A Girls Bestfriend" being played on Mariahs bathroom widescreen television.

Mariah shows images of Marilyn Monroe in her Don't Forget About Us (remix) music video, where she also shows off her Marilyn Monroe belt buckle. Mariah has also imitated Marilyn in two of her past videos: Don't Forget About Us (original) and I Still Believe. In her Don't Forget About Us (original) music video Mariah imitates the scene of Marilyn in the pool of the movie Something's Got To Give. In the I Still Believe music video Mariah imitates Marilyn when she performed for troops in Korea.

The images below are screen captures from Mariah's Cribs episode as well as her Marilyn inspired music videos.

Christina AguileraCHRISTINA AGUILERA
Singer

Christina Aguilera is known for changing her appearance and style throughout the years. In 2005 Christina's style was inspired from the 20's-50's eras, sporting various hairstyles and clothing styles. She appeared with rapper, Nelly, in the music video for Tilt Ya Head Back which featured a 20's/30's concept. Although Marilyn's look is from the 50's/early 60's era, Christina's look was very Marilyn-esque, complete with Marilyn's signature beauty mark, although Christina has hers on the opposite side.

For the June 2006 cover for GQ magazine, Christina's photo shoot was based on An Evening with Marilyn by photographer Douglas Kirkland.

MadonnaMADONNA
Singer

Madonna imitated the Diamonds Are A Girls Bestfriend concept from movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for her 1985 music video, Material Girl. This was a very big song and music video for Madonna. Following the popularity of the single the press usually nicknamed her "The Material Girl".
Madonna also copied many Marilyn Monroe photo shoots in the 90's, including images of Marilyn originally photographed by photographer Bert Stern, who contemplated legal action at the time and said Madonna was, "body snatching Monroe".

"It goes beyond similarity. It's copying... These people are making a lot of money from plagiarism, and it dilutes the impact of  the originals." - Bert Stern. I guess his opinion has changed since he recreated The Last Sitting with actress Lindsay Lohan in 2008.
