1947 - THE SHOCKING MISS PILGRIM
STARRING: BETTY GRABLE, DICK HAYMES
ROLE: UNCREDITED
This film is the story of a 1870s Boston woman who becomes the first female employee in a shipping company. The men object to her at first, but she soon charms them all, especially the young head of the company. Their romance is sidetracked when she becomes involved in the women's suffrage movement. Marilyn Monroe has a bit part in the movie.
1947 - DANGEROUS YEARS
STARRING: DANNY JONES, WILLY MILLER
ROLE: EVIE
A man tries to put an end to the town's delinquency problem by creating a boys' club. Meanwhile, a young hoodlum shows up and influences the local teenage boys. They spend their time hanging out in a juke joint where Evie (portrayed by Marilyn) works. This part would mark Marilyn's first speaking role in a film. View Clip.
1948 - SCUDDA HOO! SCUDDA HEY!
STARRING: JUNE HAVER, LON MCCALLISTER
ROLE: BETTY (UNCREDITED)
Lon McCallister plays a man who arranges to buy a pair of mules from his employer. No one is able to handle the mules and he must train them. He also pursues the daughter of his boss, however she enjoys making him wonder about her true feelings. Marilyn's canoe scene was cut but she is briefly seen saying 'Hi' to June Haver in another scene. View Clip.
1948 - LADIES OF THE CHORUS
STARRING: ADELE JERGENS, MARILYN MONROE
ROLE: PEGGY MARTIN
Former burlesque star Mae and her daughter Peggy dance in the chorus. When Mae has a fight with featured dancer Bubbles, Bubbles leaves the show and Peggy takes her place. When Peggy falls in love with wealthy Randy, Mae fears class differences may lead to misery. Marilyn sings "Every Baby Needs a Da Da Daddy" and "Anyone Can Tell I Love You." View Clip.
1949 - RIDERS OF THE WHISTLING PINES
STARRING: GENE AUTRY, JIMMY LLOYD
ROLE: LATE WIFE OF CHARACTER JOE LUCAS (UNCREDITED)
Badguys Henry, Bill and Pete head a gang of outlaws who are destroying the timberland. When Gene butts in they frame him on a cattle-poisoning charge and set him up for murder.
Marilyn wasn't an actress in this western film but her picture appeared a few times by the character Joe Lucas (Jimmy Lloyd), who was pining over the death of his wife (Marilyn Monroe). Marilyn was under contract wtih Columbia at the time. This particular photo can be seen many times in Ladies of the Chorus.
1950 - TICKET TO TOMAHAWK
STARRING: ADELE JERGENS, MARILYN MONROE
ROLE: CLARA (SHOWGIRL)
In 1876 Dawson wants to prevent a train from getting to Tomahawk CO on time, to keep it from competing with his stage coach line. Kit, who must get the train to its goal, forces Johnny aboard as the needed passenger. Madame Adelaide's showgirls (including Marilyn as Clara) ride along and, en route to Tomahawk, join Johnny in "Oh, What A Forward Young Man You Are."
1950 - LOVE HAPPY
STARRING: GROUCHO MARX, CHICO MARX, HARPO MARX & RAYMOND BURR
ROLE: GRUNION'S CLIENT
In the Marx Brothers' last film, Groucho Marx is Sam Grunion, a private investigator assigned to find the missing Romanoff diamonds. Marilyn has a part in the film as one of Grunion's clients. Love Happy also stars Chico Marx, Harpo Marx and Raymond Burr. View Clip.
1950 - ALL ABOUT EVE
STARRING: BETTE DAVIS, ANNE BAXTER
ROLE: CLAUDIA CASWELL
A sophisticated look at life in and around the theater, All About Eve won six Oscars, including best picture, best director and best screenplay. Bette Davis plays Broadway star Margo Channing who is idolized by Eve Herrington, played by Anne Baxter. The idolization turns to more in this classic film. Marilyn plays Claudia Caswell, an ambitious starlet and girlfriend of a theater critic. View Clip.
1950 - THE FIREBALL
STARRING: MICKEY ROONEY, PAT O'BRIEN, MARILYN MONROE
ROLE: POLLY
An orphan boy played by Mickey Rooney devotes himself to becoming a big-time roller skating champion. He gets involved with women like Polly (played by Marilyn) who only love him because of his fame.
1950 - RIGHT CROSS
STARRING: DICK POWELL, JUNE ALLYSON, RICARDO MONTALBAN & LIONEL BARRYMORE
ROLE: DUSKY LEDOUX (UNCREDITED)
Right Cross gives a compact account of the boxing world with a sports writer and boxer in love with the same woman. Lonely Rick, played by Dick Powell, feels that the world is against him because of his Mexican heritage and takes up drinking and womanizing. One of the women he becomes involved with is Marilyn (the role is uncredited), in a nightclub bit part. Right Cross also stars June Allyson, Ricardo Montalban and Lionel Barrymore.
1950 - THE ASPHALT JUNGLE
STARRING: MARILYN MONROE, STERLING HAYDEN & LOUIS CALHERN
ROLE: ANGELA PHINLAY
Based on a W. R. Burnett novel and directed by John Houston, The Asphalt Jungle is about a gang that plans a million-dollar jewelry store burglary. The jewels will be sold to a lawyer named Emmerich, played by Louis Calhern, who is nearly broke and planning a double cross, puts up a front with the help of his niece Angela, played by Marilyn. This film also stars Sterling Hayden as Dix Handley. View Clip.
1951 - HOMETOWN STORY
STARRING: JEFFERY LYNN
ROLE: IRIS MARTIN
Recently defeated in a re-election race for the state legislature, Blake Washburn, played by Jeffrey Lynn, blames big business for his loss and tries to defame a manufacturer. Marilyn, as the character of Iris Martin, is one of Lynn's employees at his newspaper office. View Clip.
1951 - LOVE NEST

ROLE: ROBERTA "BOBBIE" STEVENS
A cheerful comedy, Love Nest, based on the novel by Joseph M. Newman, introduces an army returnee that finds out his wife has purchased a broken-down brownstone apartment, whose tenants become part of their lives. The movie features an appearance by Marilyn Monroe as Roberta Stevens, a former WAC officer who causes problems for the couple's marriage. View Clip.
1951 - LET'S MAKE IT LEGAL
STARRING: CLAUDETTE COLBERT, MACDONALD CAREY & MARILYN MONROE
ROLE: JOYCE MANNERING
This comedy focuses on a woman named Miriam whose divorce to her husband will become final at midnight. Before the clock strikes 12, a series of odd events occur, including the appearance of a former beau who tempts Miriam. Marilyn plays a supporting role as Joyce Mannering. This film also stars Claudette Colbert and Macdonald Carey.
1951 - AS YOUNG AS YOU FEEL
STARRING: MONTY WOOLLEY, THELMA RITTER, JEAN PETERS & CONSTANCE BENNETT
ROLE: HARRIET
A printing company employee played by Monty Woolley is forced to retire when he turns sixty-five, but he will not sit still for it. He decides to impersonate the president of the company in order to impose some minor changes in the retirement policy. Marilyn portrays the character of Harriet, the secretary for the president of the company. This film also stars Thelma Ritter, Jean Peters and Constance Bennett. View Clip.
1952 - O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE
STARRING: CHARLES LAUGHTON, RICHARD WIDMARK, ANNE BAXTER & JEAN PETERS
ROLE: STREETWALKER
Narrated by John Steinbeck and directected by Howard Hawkes, O. Henry's Full house features five varying stories by O. Henry, including "The Cop and the Anthem" with Marilyn Monroe. In that story, a homeless man named Soapy plans on getting arrested so that he can spend the winter in a nice jail cell, only to find out that might not be an easy task. In an attempt to get arrested, he tries to accost Marilyn's character, but that plan fails when it is discovered that she is a streetwalker. This movie also stars Charles Laughton, Richard Widmark, Anne Baxter and Jean Peters. View Clip.
1952 - MONKEY BUSINESS
STARRING: CARY GRANT, GINGER ROGERS, CHARLES COBURN & MARILYN MONROE
ROLE: LOIS LAUREL
This comedy features a chemist who is working on a youth formula for a company by testing it on chimps. When one of the chimps mixes her own formula and it gets in the water cooler, everyone is affected including the chemist (played by Cary Grant), his wife (Ginger Rogers), his boss (Charles Coburn), and his secretary Lois Laurel, played by Marilyn. 1952 - CLASH BY NIGHT

ROLE: PEGGY
Barbara Stanwyck portrays Mae, a drifter who returns to town a cynical woman. Her brother Joe worries that his love, fish cannery worker Peggy (played by Marilyn), will wind up like Mae, who quickly marries, but then becomes involved in an affair with another man. 1952 - WE'RE NOT MARRIED!

Five couples discover their weddings were never legal after the justice of the peace admits that he performed the ceremonies before his license was officially valid. Marilyn plays beauty queen Annabel Norris, whose husband (played by David Wayne) sees this turn of events as perfect leverage. Annabel, who has just won the Mrs. Mississippi title, now decides to enter the Miss Mississippi contest. This film also stars Ginger Rogers, Fred Allen and Eve Arden. View Clip.
1952 - DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK

ROLE: NELL FORBES
This drama features an airline pilot (played by Richard Widmark) who is staying in a New York hotel were his girlfriend Lyn (played by Anne Bancroft) is a singer. After being jilted by his girlfriend, he becomes acquainted with Marilyn's character, Nell Forbes, who is hired as a babysitter by a family in the hotel. She fails to mention on her resume that she was recently released from a mental institution. It soon becomes apparent to the pilot and everyone else that Nell is a very unstable and deeply disturbed person. Based on the novel by Charlotte Armstrong. View Clip.
1953 - NIAGARA

In this suspenseful thriller, Marilyn's character, Rose Loomis, and her mentally-unbalanced husband (played by Joseph Cotten) are honeymooning at Niagara Falls when the new bride and her secret lover hatch a plan to kill Rose's husband. Based on the novel by Anita Loos and directed by Howard Hawks, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is about two sassy lounge singers as they tantalize men of two continents as they pursue potential husbands on an ocean cruise to Paris. Marilyn plays fortune hunter Lorelei Lee and sings the famous song 'Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend.' The film also stars Jane Russell and Charles Coburn. View Clip.
1953 - HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE

In addition to Marilyn Monroe, How to Marry a Millionaire stars Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall, William Powell and Rory Calhoun. It is a comedy about three man-hunting New York City models that are tired of cheap men and a lack of money. The women, including Marilyn as Pola Debevoise, pool their resources in an attempt to trap eligible bachelors. Pola is very near-sighted, but refuses to wear her glasses in front of men, which leads to some sticky situations. View Clip.

Tom Ewell and Evelyn Keyes also star in this film directed by Billy Wilder. While Ewell's wife is vacationing in the country, her husband begins fantasizing about the voluptuous blonde who moves in upstairs, played by Marilyn. Directed and starred in by Laurence Olivier, this film is a thoughtful comedy about an American showgirl Elsie Marina, played by Marilyn. She is romanced by Prince Regent of Carpathia (played by Olivier) during the 1911 coronation of George V. View Clip.

Directed by Billy Wilder and also starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis, Some Like it Hot is a legendary comedy about two musicians who witness the St. Valentine's Day massacre. In order to elude the mob, the men join an all-girl band heading for Miami. To blend in, the men are forced to dress up as women. Marilyn gave a memorable performance as Sugar Kane and sang "I Wanna Be Loved By You." Some Like it Hot was named as the American Film Institute's #1 funniest film of the century in 2000. View Clip.
1960 - LET'S MAKE LOVE

ROLE: AMANDA DELL
A billionaire, played by Yves Montand, hears of a show that is going to spoof him and he goes to the set with plans to stop it. There he is mistaken for an actor and chosen to portray himself in the play. While on the set, he meets one of the show's stars, Amanda Dell (played by Marilyn), and tries to charm her. The man goes to extremes to impress Marilyn's character by hiring Bing Crosby to teach him to sing, Milton Berle to teach him comedy and Gene Kelly to teach him to dance.
1961 - THE MISFITS
STARRING: MARILYN MONROE, CLARK GABLE, ELI WALLACH & MONTGOMERY CLIFT
ROLE: ROSLYN TABER
Written by Marilyn's former husband Arthur Miller, this film involves a disillusioned divorcee named Roslyn Taber (played by Marilyn) and her brooding cowboy friends who are traveling the rodeo circuit in search of temporary employment. The film also stars Clark Gable, Eli Wallach and Montgomery Clift and would mark the last movie appearances of Clark Gable and Marilyn. View Clip.
1962 - SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE
STARRING: MARILYN MONROE, DEAN MARTIN & CYD CHARISSE
ROLE: ELLEN ARDEN
Although Marilyn never completed this film, it was the story of a woman who had lived on an uninhabited island for five years, and upon returning home, found that her husband had married another woman. It co-starred Dean Martin as her husband and Cyd Charisse as his new wife. This film was to include Marilyn's first nude scene in a movie, in which she provocatively skinny dipped in a pool.
