1947 - THE SHOCKING MISS PILGRIM
STARRING: BETTY GRABLE, DICK HAYMES

This film is the story of a 1870s Boston woman who becomes the first female employee in a shipping company. The men object to her at first, but she soon charms them all, especially the young head of the company. Their romance is sidetracked when she becomes involved in the women's suffrage movement. Marilyn Monroe has a bit part in the movie.

A man tries to put an end to the town's delinquency problem by creating a boys' club. Meanwhile, a young hoodlum shows up and influences the local teenage boys. They spend their time hanging out in a juke joint where Evie (portrayed by Marilyn) works. This part would mark Marilyn's first speaking role in a film. View Clip.

Lon McCallister plays a man who arranges to buy a pair of mules from his employer. No one is able to handle the mules and he must train them. He also pursues the daughter of his boss, however she enjoys making him wonder about her true feelings. Marilyn's canoe scene was cut but she is briefly seen saying 'Hi' to June Haver in another scene. View Clip.

Former burlesque star Mae and her daughter Peggy dance in the chorus. When Mae has a fight with featured dancer Bubbles, Bubbles leaves the show and Peggy takes her place. When Peggy falls in love with wealthy Randy, Mae fears class differences may lead to misery. Marilyn sings "Every Baby Needs a Da Da Daddy" and "Anyone Can Tell I Love You." View Clip.

 

Riders of the Whistling Pines1949 - RIDERS OF THE WHISTLING PINES

Badguys Henry, Bill and Pete head a gang of outlaws who are destroying the timberland. When Gene butts in they frame him on a cattle-poisoning charge and set him up for murder.

Marilyn wasn't an actress in this western film but her picture appeared a few times by the character Joe Lucas (Jimmy Lloyd), who was pining over the death of his wife (Marilyn Monroe). Marilyn was under contract wtih Columbia at the time. This particular photo can be seen many times in Ladies of the Chorus.

In 1876 Dawson wants to prevent a train from getting to Tomahawk CO on time, to keep it from competing with his stage coach line. Kit, who must get the train to its goal, forces Johnny aboard as the needed passenger. Madame Adelaide's showgirls (including Marilyn as Clara) ride along and, en route to Tomahawk, join Johnny in "Oh, What A Forward Young Man You Are."

In the Marx Brothers' last film, Groucho Marx is Sam Grunion, a private investigator assigned to find the missing Romanoff diamonds. Marilyn has a part in the film as one of Grunion's clients. Love Happy also stars Chico Marx, Harpo Marx and Raymond Burr. View Clip.

An orphan boy played by Mickey Rooney devotes himself to becoming a big-time roller skating champion. He gets involved with women like Polly (played by Marilyn) who only love him because of his fame.

Right Cross gives a compact account of the boxing world with a sports writer and boxer in love with the same woman. Lonely Rick, played by Dick Powell, feels that the world is against him because of his Mexican heritage and takes up drinking and womanizing. One of the women he becomes involved with is Marilyn (the role is uncredited), in a nightclub bit part. Right Cross also stars June Allyson, Ricardo Montalban and Lionel Barrymore.

The Asphalt Jungle1950 - THE ASPHALT JUNGLE
STARRING: MARILYN MONROE, STERLING HAYDEN & LOUIS CALHERN
ROLE: ANGELA PHINLAY

Based on a W. R. Burnett novel and directed by John Houston, The Asphalt Jungle is about a gang that plans a million-dollar jewelry store burglary. The jewels will be sold to a lawyer named Emmerich, played by Louis Calhern, who is nearly broke and planning a double cross, puts up a front with the help of his niece Angela, played by Marilyn. This film also stars Sterling Hayden as Dix Handley. View Clip.

Recently defeated in a re-election race for the state legislature, Blake Washburn, played by Jeffrey Lynn, blames big business for his loss and tries to defame a manufacturer. Marilyn, as the character of Iris Martin, is one of Lynn's employees at his newspaper office. View Clip.

In that story, a homeless man named Soapy plans on getting arrested so that he can spend the winter in a nice jail cell, only to find out that might not be an easy task. In an attempt to get arrested, he tries to accost Marilyn's character, but that plan fails when it is discovered that she is a streetwalker. After being jilted by his girlfriend, he becomes acquainted with Marilyn's character, Nell Forbes, who is hired as a babysitter by a family in the hotel. She fails to mention on her resume that she was recently released from a mental institution. In order to elude the mob, the men join an all-girl band heading for Miami. To blend in, the men are forced to dress up as women. Marilyn gave a memorable performance as Sugar Kane and sang "I Wanna Be Loved By You." Some Like it Hot was named as the American Film Institute's #1 funniest film of the century in 2000. The man goes to extremes to impress Marilyn's character by hiring Bing Crosby to teach him to sing, Milton Berle to teach him comedy and Gene Kelly to teach him to dance.


Marilyn Monroe as Roslyn Taber1961 - THE MISFITS

Written by Marilyn's former husband Arthur Miller, this film involves a disillusioned divorcee named Roslyn Taber (played by Marilyn) and her brooding cowboy friends who are traveling the rodeo circuit in search of temporary employment. Marilyn Monroe as Ellen Arden1962 - SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE

Although Marilyn never completed this film, it was the story of a woman who had lived on an uninhabited island for five years, and upon returning home, found that her husband had married another woman. It co-starred Dean Martin as her husband and Cyd Charisse as his new wife. This film was to include Marilyn's first nude scene in a movie, in which she provocatively skinny dipped in a pool.
